Amazon has launched a new Seller Success Centre at its Cape Town office, aiming to attract and onboard more businesses to its marketplace platform, Reuters reported.

Amazon announced the opening of a walk-in Seller Hub designed to help South African businesses expand their reach and grow their customer base. Located at Amazon’s Cape Town headquarters, the centre will provide local sellers with various services, including immediate registration to sell on Amazon.co.za.

The centre will welcome the public, offering walk-in access to entrepreneurs and businesses keen to explore selling opportunities through Amazon’s marketplace.

‘We’re thrilled to introduce the Amazon Seller Success Centre to South African small businesses,’ said Robert Koen, Managing Director of Amazon Sub-Saharan Africa. ‘This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering the growth of local businesses and contributing to South Africa’s digital economy.’

Robert Koen noted that by offering hands-on support and resources, Amazon is striving to bridge the technological divide for those who have historically lacked access to e-commerce opportunities. He also acknowledged the importance of in-person interactions in making it easier for South African small businesses to leverage the opportunities available to Amazon’s selling partners.

The Seller Success Centre’s launch comes at a crucial time for South Africa’s Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprise (SSME) sector, which supports around half of the country’s workforce and contributes approximately 34% to its GDP.

Despite its significant role in the economy, the sector faces challenges in embracing digital transformation due to limited access to technology and expertise. The Centre aims to bridge this gap by equipping sellers and small businesses with the necessary tools and resources to accelerate their digital adoption.

The centre’s team will possess expertise across various facets of Amazon’s platform, providing selling partners, entrepreneurs, and small businesses with comprehensive guidance on seller account management and onboarding.

In addition, the centre will organise and facilitate monthly Selling Partner Connect sessions, creating opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning among participants.

Amazon South Africa plans to host its inaugural Seller Summit in the first half of 2025. The event will offer existing and prospective selling partners access to exclusive content, including insights into the latest tools and innovations available on the platform.
