Canva has introduced a new integration with ChatGPT, becoming the first design platform to enable direct access to user content within OpenAI’s interface, Canva stated in a press release.

The new ‘deep research’ feature allows users to search, summarise, and extract information from their Canva files without leaving the chat. The tool is designed to improve access to existing content, helping users retrieve relevant information from campaign decks, strategy documents, and other materials.

‘Whether you’re prepping for a pitch or pulling campaign insights, it’s a smarter way to work,’ Canva stated. ‘And with our upcoming MCP Server integration, you’ll soon be able to action on design directly from the chat too.’

The integration aims to support a range of use cases – from marketers reviewing launch materials to educators referencing lesson plans. By enabling content analysis within ChatGPT, users can avoid switching between applications and locate key information more efficiently.

Canva also plans to expand this functionality with the launch of its MCP Server, which will allow users to generate, edit, and adapt designs directly within ChatGPT. This will include capabilities such as resizing assets, creating presentations, and importing content, all through text commands.

The company highlights that this development aligns with a broader trend of integrating creative tools into conversational AI platforms. By making design functions available within ChatGPT, Canva seeks to streamline common workflows and reduce the number of steps required to move from content review to execution.

‘We’re embedding Canva directly into the AI tools people use every day so they can brainstorm, create, and publish content faster,’ said Anwar Haneef, GM and Head of Ecosystem at Canva. ‘This is a major step in our vision to make the complex simple.’

The company reports that usage of its Canva GPT tool has increased by 375% year-over-year, reflecting broader adoption of AI-assisted productivity features. With deep research and MCP Server integration, Canva is expanding its role in users’ digital workflows.
