Total,  the French multinational oil and gas company, will acquire the largest electric car charging network in London from the Bolloré Group, according to a release today.

The Blue Point London network includes more than 1,600 on-street charging points. The Paris-based Total adds the London network to electric car charging points in Amsterdam and Brussels, as part of an aims to operate more than 150,000 electric vehicle charge points by 2025.

The acquisition shows how traditional oil companies are moving to defend their brand and customer base as the populace increasingly chooses electric cars over petroleum. Total and others have also increasingly invested into renewable energy generation, which will contribute to powering electric cars.

The transaction is expected to close this year. The price of the deal was not disclosed.
